The 1st of many symptoms of bad gas caps is probably a gas cap that is loose or a gas cap that won’t tighten completely. This may not seem significant right away, but if it’s not fully sealed then the fuel system can be exposed to dirt and grime. If the gas cap is not closing properly, try checking the rubber seal to be sure it isn’t brittle or missing. If you drive an old car, make sure the metal gas cap is not bent or damaged. Both a bad seal or bent gas cap can contribute to the gas cap issues and might require a replacement from the original manufacturer.
